Lifecycle Email Designs - Loyalty Program
As the sole designer on the account, I designed all 21 lifecycle emails for White Castle's Season 3 loyalty relaunch, integrating a significantly updated packaging system without losing the appetite appeal the brand depends on.

The Context
A full season, one designer
Telus Digital manages the email lifecycle for White Castle's Craver Nation Rewards program, and I was brought on as the sole designer to rebuild the entire Season 3 send calendar — six journeys covering everything from first announcement to birthday rewards.
The Challenge
A new packaging language, without losing the crave
Midway through Season 3 planning, White Castle rolled out a significantly updated packaging system — sticker-style elements, paper-textured backgrounds, and several new colors added to the brand guidelines. It was a bigger visual departure than a typical refresh.

My job was to bring that new system into the emails in a way that felt current and on-brand, without it competing with the food photography. Loyalty emails live or die on whether the food still looks craveable, so every sticker, texture, and new color had to support that, not distract from it.

Because the update touched brand-sensitive territory, key layouts went through an additional internal review with Telus Digital's Restaurant & Retail (R&R) team before ever reaching White Castle for client sign-off — an extra checkpoint inside an already tight production schedule.

The Process

From new brand system to a template that scales
01
Interpreting a new brand system
Audited the new packaging assets to figure out which elements — stickers, textures, new colors — could translate to email without cluttering the layout, and which needed to stay purely physical-packaging elements.
02
Building a modular milestone template
The Triggered Milestones journey fires whenever a member completes a quest — like earning a BOGO breakfast slider — and needed to scale to 17 reward variations across three loyalty tiers. Rather than build 17 one-off emails, I designed one flexible layout where the offer, imagery, and tier styling swap in and out.
03
Internal review before client sign-off
Ran packaging-forward layouts past Telus Digital's Restaurant & Retail team first, catching brand-guideline issues early and refining the balance between new packaging elements and food photography before anything reached the client.
The Opportunity
Turning a rebrand into a reason to come back
Rather than treat the new packaging system as a constraint to work around, I used it to make leveling up feel like the reward it's supposed to be. Craver Nation Rewards is built on a simple hook — fresh Quests every season, and the question of how far a member will go this time. If the program is asking Cravers to keep climbing, the emails needed to visually prove it was worth climbing for.

I dialed the new packaging elements in gradually instead of applying them evenly everywhere. Adventurer emails use the stickers and textures sparingly, so the look still feels familiar.
